I Ditched Mitchum for Wild’s New Antiperspirant – Here’s My Honest Verdict

If I’m honest, switching antiperspirants feels like a risk. When something works, you stick with it. For me, that was Mitchum. It was the one antiperspirant I could rely on through long commutes, stressful meetings, and gym sessions without a second thought. So when I heard Wild had launched a proper antiperspirant range, I was curious but sceptical. Wild makes great natural deodorant, but antiperspirant is a different game entirely.

I gave it a proper test. Four weeks, day in, day out, through everything my schedule could throw at it. Here’s what I found.

The Performance Question

This was the big one. Mitchum has built its entire reputation on being strong and reliable, and fairly so. It does the job.

Wild’s roll-on antiperspirant uses a patented formula with aluminium salts, the same active ingredient category that makes any antiperspirant work, but in a formula that also contains mostly natural ingredients. I wasn’t sure that combination would hold up in practice.

The answer, It does. On regular work days, I genuinely couldn’t tell the difference between the two. I applied Wild in the morning and didn’t think about it again until the evening, which is exactly what I want from an antiperspirant. On busier days, rushing between meetings, squeezing in a lunchtime workout, it held its own. I’d say the two are genuinely comparable for sweat and odour control, with Wild claiming 72-hour protection.

Where Wild Pulls Ahead

The feel. This was the surprise. Mitchum can feel a bit heavy and draggy on application. It does the job but it’s not exactly pleasant. Wild’s roll-on goes on lighter, dries quicker, and I noticed fewer white marks on my clothes. That alone made mornings slightly less annoying.

The scent. Mitchum smells fine. Clean, inoffensive, forgettable. Wild’s fragrances are noticeably better, more like something you’d actually choose to smell like rather than just “not bad.” I went with Fresh Cotton & Sea Salt and it has that clean, just-showered quality that lasts without clashing with perfume.

The sustainability. This is where there’s no contest. Mitchum is a plastic tube that goes in the bin. Wild’s system is a refillable aluminium case with plastic-free, compostable refill cartridges. If you’re trying to cut down on bathroom waste, this is a genuine, practical improvement rather than a token gesture.

Where Mitchum Still Has a Case

Availability is one. Mitchum is in every supermarket, every Boots, every corner shop. Wild is now in most retailers but not with quite the same availability. They are however, online too. If you need to grab a replacement last-minute, Mitchum may win on convenience.

Price per unit is also slightly higher with Wild up front, though the refill model means ongoing costs are reasonable once you have the case.

Is it worth it?

I went into this expecting to confirm that Mitchum was still my go-to and that Wild was a nice idea that couldn’t quite compete. That’s not what happened. Wild’s antiperspirant range genuinely performs on par, if not better, with Mitchum for daily protection, and it’s more pleasant to use. Better scent, better texture, better for the environment.

I haven’t bought a Mitchum since, and I don’t plan to. That says more than any review can.
